The Epiphone Hummingbird Pro Solid Top Acoustic/Electric Guitar
The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Guitar is a cheaper(though definitely not worse) version of the Gibson Hummingbird, which was made popular by famous guitarists around the world.
So if you are looking for something to start off your musical journey with for your next performance or recording session, then continue to read on to learn about what this guitar has to offer.
Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird Pro has a solid spruce top, which has rich and complex tonewood that only gets better with age.
So the more you play the guitar, the better sound it has.
Furthermore, the guitar features a classic SlimTaper D profile and scale which is attached to its body using the glued-in dovetail joint for extra support.
It has a rosewood fingerboard for comfort, as well as a compensated saddle for smooth intonation and action.
With that in mind, you have the excellently designed guitar that doesn’t only look amazing but feels just as comfortable. There won’t be a problem strumming into the guitar wherever you are.
Shadow Pickup System
Shadow Germany and Epiphone have collaborated together for over ten years now, trying to perfect the ways of amplifying the acoustic guitar when played on stage.
And that’s where the Shadow NanoFlex pickup was born, the cutting-edge system which can handle ANY gig of whatever size, still producing the acoustic sound.
You can find the preamp controls on the upper bout, which include the controls for the treble, bass, mute, EQ, volume, and dynamics control.
That way, you have full control of what sounds you want when playing on stage or alone. Furthermore, there is even a low battery indicator so there’s no need to worry about it dying while onstage.
Impressive Hardware
Besides its strong and iconic appearance, the Hummingbird Pro comes with fantastic hardware and electronics, which allows you to plug it in and begin playing onstage.
While there is no built-in tuner, its systems and pickups make up for it.
Furthermore, it has the imitation bone saddle, the truss rod, the light strings for easy playability with a nice sound. In addition to that, you have good-quality Grover turners, which are easy to manually tune without problems of adjustability or tightness.
You can see that the guitar is well-built and with good craftsmanship that makes it wonderful to play with.
Big and Bold Sounds
Once you begin strumming, you’ll already notice its amazing balance. What’s great about the Hummingbird Pro is its versatility. Whether you are playing alone or onstage, an intermediate or amateur guitarist, then this is where Epiphone impresses.
Any guitarist will be able to easily pick up the guitar and begin playing whatever genre they want, may it be rock riffs or barre chords.
Expect a lot of tones and good resonation thanks to its spruce top, as well as the big and bold sounds. You also have the warm and rich tone that truly amazes at its price.
Smooth Playability
Last but not the least, expect smooth and easy playability with the Hummingbird Pro. The neck is smooth even in its natural state (unplugged) and you can control its volume.
Whether you want it to have a loud projection or sing over it, the guitar never overshadows but can be heard.
While it does have a bit of higher action, it can be fixed without a hassle and isn’t much of an inconvenience.
Pros
- Has the classic Hummingbird acoustic guitar but with excellent hardware inside
- Great balance in sound when you begin playing, even better once it is in the right amplifier
- Distinct lower end tune with a strong foundation for brighter and higher ends
- Has a preamp for easy control for equalization of volume, treble, and bass
- No need to reach inside the guitar to change batteries, you can replace it from the outside body
Cons
- The neck is a bit far off but can be adjusted
- Some can hear a bit of a twang or buzz as they play
- Some complaints of the guitar lacking in tone without a bottom end
My Verdict
While the Epiphone Hummingbird Pro has some limitations (it’s no expensive Gibson guitar!), you can see its extraordinary features you usually can’t find from an intermediate acoustic guitar at this price range.
This is why one can say that this guitar is well worth its price and more, especially if you are looking into exploring more music styles.
For those who are learning to play or want to upgrade from the usual acoustic guitar, then this is an impressive upgrade. From its warm and mellow sound and versatility with playing, your audience (and yourself) will be impressed by what the guitar has to offer.
Whether you are a beginner or intermediate guitarist, this electric-acoustic guitar is a great purchase to continue the musical journey.
Impossible to plug in and play without feeding back. After 4 years of trying to make it work I’ve plugged a soundhole pickup into the preamp. Now it works perfectly.
I must agree !
even with a direct box to plug live to a P A … pickups are terrible!!!
I’m also going to replace it with a sound hole pickup!
