Materials
Both guitars are made from the same materials. Each acoustic guitar has the same solid sitka spruce top, nato back and sides, rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge and diecast tuners.
The Difference
The main difference between these two acoustic guitars is their size. The Yamaha FS800 has a body dimension of 19.1 x 41.6 x 6 inches, while the Yamaha FG800 20.7 x 42.5 x 6.1 inches.
Of course, given that the FS is a much smaller acoustic guitar, players with short hands will find comfort in this guitar’s tighter string spacing at bridge and shorter neck.
How’s the Sound?
Well, some might say that the FS800 has a warmer and louder sound. While the FG800 has more emphasis on the bass and has more sustain.
But I will say that based on my experience, these are slight differences and they are almost unnoticeable. Also, these sound differences don’t matter at all as these as both great acoustic guitars in own right.

Which Guitar Should I Buy?
Having said that these two guitars have the same materials though have different sizes, it all comes down to comfortability in playing and preference.
The Yamaha FS800 is included in our best acoustic guitars for beginners list and is arguably a perfect guitar for those players who are short and were used to playing smaller instruments. There are also some players who prefer playing on a smaller guitar and some who want to have a guitar that they can easily carry along with. We recommend the Yamaha FS800 for these guitar players.
On the other hand, there are also some who prefer a standard dreadnought style guitar with a full loud sound, and the Yamaha FG800 is the perfect acoustic guitar for these players.
