A direct upgrade from the FG730 guitar, the Yamaha FG830 is one hell of a good guitar. On the other hand, the Seagull S6 Original is the brand’s best-selling acoustic guitar that is made in Canada.
How will these two guitars stand against each other?
Let’s get into it.

Yamaha FG830
To emphasize, the Yamaha FG830 is a successor to the awesome-looking FG730. The FG series has been regarded as the best-selling acoustic guitar series of all of time by Yamaha, and the FG830 is one of those guitars. It has a solid sitka spruce top, rosewood back and sides, rosewood fingerboard, nato neck and die-cast chrome tuners.
Though the Yamaha FG830 is made from common wood materials, it comes with a new scalloped X-bracing feature. What this does is it brings out the guitar’s natural and punchy sound without compromising its durability standards, of which the brand is famously known for.
The fine craftsmanship is also a feature that makes it outstanding among other beginner acoustic guitars. It has a cream binding from the body down to the headstock. The abalone soundhole and pickguard add to the overall awesome design as well. You can read our Yamaha FG830 review to know more about this guitar.
Seagull S6
The Seagull S6 is regarded as the brand’s best-selling acoustic guitar which features a top cedar, wild cherry back and sides, rosewood fingerboard, and maple neck. Judging from the materials used to build this acoustic guitar, we can really say that the Seagull S6 Original is a first-rate construction guitar.
It may not look fancy compared to the Yamaha FG830, but the sound is definitely not a letdown. Whatever features that it may lack in its design, it compensates on the sound. To know more about this guitar, read our review on Seagull s6.

How Does Each Guitar Sound?
Let’s look at how each acoustic guitar sound:
Yamaha FG830
Seagull S6
Judging from the videos above, choosing the best acoustic guitar, or rather the better acoustic guitar is a tough choice. The Yamaha FG830 produces a loud, crisp, and overwhelming sound that makes you want to play more. It has an awesome punch tone that is really perfect, and each string’s sound is defined.
On the contrary, the Seagull S6 sounds “whole” in a sense that you can hear the tone screaming from the inside. The cedar top really brings out the best in this guitar which also produces a bright sound that balances over each string.
Conclusion
We may be comparing apples to oranges, but these two guitars are worth comparing.
The Yamaha has a solid design profile and superb quality sound. It has been the brand’s reputation of making high-durable acoustic guitars for decades. You really can’t go wrong with buying a Yamaha FG830 as it will surely last with you for years.
On the other hand, the durability issue is what makes me choose Yamaha FG830 over Seagull s6. The Cedar on the S6 may produce a well-defined sound profile, however, compared to solid spruce, it is softer and needs a bit more caring.
In fairness, this kind of wood ages quicker compared to spruce which brings out the guitar’s full sound potential faster. With its price, the Seagull S6 is a sure bargain.
